Chuck Klosterman talks about how the Unabomber had a thesis that "technology is bad for civilization". He describes how Ted Kaczynski felt he had to kill people in order to get his ideas published.
Just a while before I was typing this blog I was sitting in the library with my friend. She was studying and I was reading the excerpt from Eating the Dinosaur. At one point she turned to me and said "wanna just stalk for a little?" I didn't even flinch. Of course I did. I love examining a person's facebook page so far back I know what someone wore to their high school prom. After we realized facebook wasn't working fast enough we gossiped for a minute and then both just went back to working. I went back to reading all about the Unabomber and she, I couldn't even tell you what she was "working" on.
This definitely wouldn't have mattered much to me since we stalk people everyday, but in Eating the Dinosaur, the last page Klosterman says "I can no longer imagine life without it", regarding the internet. It made me think I agree. I love having every useless fact I want at my fingertips and like Klosterman, I literally cannot imagine my life without it. What if whenever I was bored or needed a break from studying I had to think of something to do besides stalk my best friend's boyfriend's older brother who I've never actually met before but know far too much about just from observing his facebook...
i think blowing up your hands might be extreme punishment for the infraction.
